Greetings Ellington Community,
I trust this letter finds you all well, and I hope each of you had a great week.
We would like to remind everyone about the Solar Eclipse happening this Monday, April 8. If students would like to participate, they must have the proper safety glasses. These glasses can be obtained from your local library. Please try to grab a pair from your local library this weekend so that you can participate in the viewing on Monday.
As we head into the final stretch of Term 3 and prepare for Spring Break, we want to encourage our students to remain dedicated and diligent in their studies. As we early anticipate the break, let's all unite our efforts and support each other.
We are thrilled to announce an exciting event coming up: the DC Cape Go-Go Pep Rally, happening right here on the Ellington lawn on April 11 from 11:00 am to 12:25 pm. Get ready for an electrifying gathering to boost our spirits and celebrate together. Following the rally, regular school lunch will be served at 12:30 in the cafeteria.
Additionally, as we gear up for Spring Break, a gentle reminder to our 9th & 10th grade students: please remember to return your school-issued devices and chargers for DC Cape Testing preparation on April 11 & 12. Return them to Mr. Smith and Mrs. Lita in room G08 starting at 9:00 am on April 11. Should you require any exceptions, don't hesitate to contact AP Jones at lisa.jones2@k12.dc.gov.
Moreover, we are thrilled to share that our comprehensive testing plan has received approval from the Office of the State Superintendent, allowing us to proceed with DC Cape Testing. His legacy continues to inspire creativity, innovation, and excellence among our school community. Let's all join together in wishing wish Duke Ellington a Happy Birthday! Additionally, we extend congratulations to our remarkable Ellington Students who graced the stage at the Jazz City event held at the Kennedy Center in celebration of the 125th Birthday of Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington. Their performance was nothing short of exquisite, and it was truly an enriching experience for all involved. We extend gratitude to our dedicated staff and faculty whose contributions were instrumental in orchestrating this unforgettable event. Moreover, we have an important update to share with you all. Due to a scanner issue, there's a temporary change in the morning entry procedures: 9th & 10th graders are kindly requested to use the side door on R St for entry. 11th & 12th graders should continue to use the main entrance as usual. Your cooperation during this time is greatly appreciated. As we move forward, it's imperative to remind our community that DC CAPE Testing for all 9th and 10th grade students begins on April 30th. Furthermore, we thank everyone who attended Enrollment Saturday. It was a great opportunity to address any questions you may have had and ensure a smooth enrollment process for your student. Special thanks to our staff and faculty who were present and assisted with student enrollment for the upcoming year. Lastly, we would like to draw attention to the approaching deadline for Arts as Activism submissions, which is May 10th.
