WELCOME TO CINEMATIC ARTS & MEDIA PRODUCTION
Cinematic Arts and Media is a unique program that builds proficiency in the integrated skills necessary for success in writing, creating, producing and directing creative work across an increasingly broad array of platforms. With writing, storytelling and concept development as its core, the program develops a foundation in the theory and practice of crafting fiction, non-fiction, and documentary narratives.
Student-artists explore spoken performance, documentary journalism, photography, television, film, and digital media and learn through a progressive process of lecture, discussion, critical analysis, master classes, and hands-on project-based learning. By Grade 12, student-artists will have the skills to produce self-driven projects for public distribution and knowledge of the legal, financial and entrepreneurial aspects of producing creative work.

We Are the Storytellers
To understand the place of the Cinematic Arts department in a school of the arts, you must begin with the basic concept that almost everything creative starts with writing.
Even if that writing never makes it to the page, the act of original creation is a form of writing and storytelling. The art and the craft are how you choose to express that idea.
In Cinematic Arts and Media Production, we are grounded in the craft of creative writing but with the idea that all writing is inherently creative, whether poetry, fiction, non-fiction, photography, or film. But we take it further to the development, production, execution, and monetization of creative ideas through a wide range of ever-changing platforms.
Our program is designed to build a new generation of writers, creators, and filmmakers with a broad range of skills to seize opportunities and tell stories passionately, beautifully, and effectively, in harmony with future technology

MISSION STATEMENT
Cinematic Arts and Media Production student-artists train to communicate their concepts visually, orally, and in writing. They collaborate and engage with their peers and teachers to conceptualize, design and produce works in creative writing, film, photography, and various media. Each of our student-artists learns and applies the professional habits of creatives: revision, workshopping, public presentation, and publication submission.
We ensure that each creative medium is introduced to our student-artists with its distinct fundamentals so they can best thoughtfully engage with communities through their work and showcase their unique values and points of view.

UPCOMING EVENTS
INFORMATION ON STUDIO ART FEES
Duke Ellington students are required to pay a yearly activity
fee of $200, which directly benefits the arts department in which they are enrolled. This fee should be paid at the time of registration but can be paid in installments. Money orders and checks should be made payable to DESAP (in the memo portion of the check: LMC Department).
These fees help to cover project licensing, field trips, publication of print projects, and computer software.
