These past two weeks have been busy internally and externally! On January 25, I was honored to be a part of the Youth Art Walk ribbon-cutting ceremony at Reagan National Airport with Congresswoman Norton, Reps from the Links, INC, and other District school leaders. Youth Art Walk is a new exhibit at Reagan National Airport in Terminal 1 that highlights artwork from young D.C. Artists. Several DESA Visual Arts students' artworks will be on display and their artwork was ranked in the top 1-5. Check out this NBC4 story to learn more.
On Wednesday, February 1, our Vocal Music Concert Choir performed at the U.S. Department of Education for the Black Educators Excellence event. They moved the crowd with their voices and we got greeted by the U.S. Secretary of
Education, Miguel Cardona. The Jazz Combo also did an amazing job during their performance for an event at the National Museum of African American History and Culture last Thursday.
The Museum Studies Department invites you to the opening night of their exhibit Day n Night in the Ellington Gallery on February 9. On February 17 we have the Vocal Music Black History Month Celebration Concert. Join us for our Black History Month Fashion Show with Saks Fifth Avenue on February 26! Tickets are $135 and can be purchased here.
Then on March 1, we're excited for the community to join us for the Ellington Experience - an encore of the wonderful recruitment performance we did last month for prospective students.
I also just wanted to say congratulations to the Class of 2023! As of January 31, they've received over $ 2 million in College Scholarships!
IMPORTANT UPDATES
Effective immediately, unless you are a member of the Track team, students are not permitted to enter the building until doors open at 8:00 a.m.
Tentative Early Dismissal at 3:30 p.m. the entire week of February 6-10, 2023 to accommodate Audition Week.
Wednesday, March 1 - SAT Day for Juniors
That's it for now. Thank you for your attention, stay safe, and have a great week!
