First Lady of France Visits DESA

This is the best school in DC! — Madame Macron

Congratulations to our entire school for shining bright during Madame Brigitte Macron's visit last Wednesday! Madame Macron, the First Lady of France, was so impressed by her first visit to DESA in 2018 that she decided to come back again during her historic Washington D.C. visit. The visit included a program centered around the importance of Jazz in American culture and a sampling of our renowned arts programming: a photography exhibit on Wynton Marsalis, curated by students in the Museum Studies department, a Theatre performance from the musical “Jelly’s Last Jam,” a Vocal Music choral performance of the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing", and two dance pieces from students in the Dance department.

The visit ended with a reception hosted by The Ellington Fund which was attended by Ellington Fund and Duke Ellington School of the Arts Project board members, Chancellor Lewis Ferebee, The Ambassador of Lichtenstein and other special guests.
