Lockdown & Shelter In Place Drills

Dear DESA Staff, Students, and Community Stakeholders,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to provide a reminder and important information regarding the procedures for Lockdown & Shelter in Place drills. These drills are crucial in ensuring the safety of all building occupants in the event of potential dangers within or outside the premises.

During a Lockdown drill, please follow these procedures:

1. Upon hearing the announcement, students are to immediately evacuate the hall and proceed to the nearest available classroom.

2. Assist any individuals who require special assistance during the evacuation.

3. Ensure that all windows and doors are closed and locked securely, and no one should leave the classroom premises for any reason.

4. Display the Emergency Procedures Guide cover in the door window with the

RED side facing out if assistance or help is needed.

GREEN side facing out if no assistance is required and the situation is clear.

In addition, please cover all room and door windows, if possible, for added security.

Once inside the classroom:

1. Encourage everyone to move away from doors and windows, and sit against interior walls.

2. Switch off lights to maintain a low profile.

3. Emphasize the importance of remaining quiet during the drill.

4. Wait for further instructions from the designated personnel.

5. Ensure that attendance is documented accurately.

DESA family, it is of utmost importance that we approach these drills with the seriousness they deserve. In these uncertain times, we must be prepared for any real situation that may arise. I kindly request each and every one of you to take these drills seriously and adhere to the provided procedures.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Respectfully,

Vernard Kam Howard, M.Ed.
