As if this past week and weekend for the CAMP Department was busy enough ( The Mock CAMP/TDP Showcase this past Wednesday April 30th & The CAMP Senior Showcase this past Friday & Saturday), several CAMP students won the prestigious 43rd Annual Parkmont Poetry Festival.
Out of 380+ entries, CAMP had four winners (one junior, two sophomores & one freshman) on the high school level.
The winners reading took place on Saturday 2pm May 3rd at the historical Zion Baptist Church in NW. DC and just a block away from the Parkmont School.
The winners from the high school level and middle school levels read their pieces in front of friends family and the finalist Judge, local poet Michael Gushe whose daughters are also Ellington and LMC aka CAMP department alums as well.
CAMP Creative Writing faculty Derrick Weston Brown was in attendance to cheer the students on and chatted with the proud parents and friends of our winning writers at a reception following the reading.
Not only did the winners receive a gift card, some Parkmont Poetry Festival 2025 swag, their poems were also published in Parkmont's yearly poetry festival anthology! Congrats, joining 40+ years of celebrated citywide DMV young writers.
