Biography

Rev. Vernard Kam Howard was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Vernard “Kam” Howard graduated from State University of New York College with a B.A. degree in American Studies. In 1998, he received a Master of Arts in Education from Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Ministry from Virginia Christian Seminary in Virginia. Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University in Washington, DC He's currently completing his 2nd year of a 3-year Ph.D. program at Morgan State University.

Rev Kam served full-time as a Youth Pastor at Wesley A.M.E. Church in Houston, TX, Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Washington, DC under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Michael Bell, Sr from 2005-2010, Youth pastor at Brown Memorial AME church under the leadership of Pastor Marlene Mitchell, served as Youth & Young Adult Pastor at Life Change AME church, under the leadership of Phil & Karen Jackson. Currently at Kingdom Fellowship AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Matthew L. Watley.

In addition, Rev. Kam has served as the principal of Nia Community Public Charter, and served as Assistant Principal for the following DCPS schools: Calvin Coolidge Sr. High School, Benjamin Banneker, and Roosevelt high school in Washington D.C. Prior to his current role as Director of Strategy& Logistics at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, he served as the same position at Eastern High School.

Rev. Kam has served as Director of youth ministries for churches in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama. Rev. Kam’s passion is illustrated by his body of work as an administrator, consultant, political activist, supervisor, director, former rapper, producer, Manger, and entrepreneur.

He is a dedicated and committed professional with an abundance of energy and polished skill. His sensitivity to the needs of communities is matched only by his love of teaching, research, and scholarship.

Rev. Kam has served as the Dean of Students for the Life Program at the Dr. Peter Ray Public School 305 in Brooklyn, New York. He has also served as an After School Coordinator, and Summer School Director for Tubman Elementary School in Washington DC. Some of his most notable accomplishments include teaching in Japan in the summer of 1994 and coordinating a Homeless Food Drive for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. NYC chapters.

In addition to creating a Curriculum for Development in urban youth-centered programs and social policies, he also created a school-based Rites of Passage program. He is a former 2002 Democratic Candidate for the House of Delegates for the state of Maryland. Rev. Kam is devoted to the youth. He mentors young people all over the country. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in which he served as Area Director for the Long Island chapters of the Fraternity.
