From the Principal's Desk 4/17/23

Greetings Ellington Community,

I hope all is well and everyone is staying safe! Tomorrow is DC Emancipation

Day and the first day of Spring Break. Utilize this time to explore the various

forms of art that are embedded in the fight for social change and develop

meaningful work that expresses the depth of the culture of our city.

What art form can you use to help push for further freedoms? Who knows?

Your project might just be selected for our Arts as Activism Assembly! Please

remember, all final projects for Arts as Activism are due on April

21. Students must submit their work to ArtsAsActivism@ellingtonarts.

org. Please see additional details and instructions below.

Our Arts as Activism Assembly will be on April 25 at 10:50 a.m., which includes a panel discussion on Go- Go and the Don't Mute DC Movement, announcing the final student winners for Arts as Activism, and other special performances. Then we have a special Museum Studies Exhibition titled Go-Go: The Sound of

DC on April 27. On April 28, we will close out the week with Jazz City, a special celebration of Edward Duke Kennedy's "124" Birthday!

We will be doing the Test-To-Return policy again to return from Spring Break. We will provide more details in next week's newsletter but all students and staff must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test result before coming back to school on April 24.
