From the Principal's Desk 2/20/23

Greetings Ellington Community,

I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend! There is NO SCHOOL for

students and teachers next week, February 20 - 24 in honor of Presidents Day and February Break. Classes resume on February 27.

Thank you to everyone who came to support our Vocal Music Department for

their Black History Month Concert last Friday! Ellington's history and mission

are a fundamental part of Black History. Although we celebrate Black History all

year, it felt special to honor our roots with such an electrifying performance.

Last week we had our school-wide Honor Roll Ceremony, and I couldn't be more proud of our artists scholars.

377 Ellington students (68%) earned honor roll for Term 2 - that is major! Not to mention, 92% of our seniors have applied to college, and they have already received over $3.7 million in scholarships!

I had the pleasure of visiting NPR with a few students from our Concert Choir on Monday, February 13! Our students were invited to sing alongside Bono, from the legendary band U2, for NPR's Tiny Desk Series. The official recording will premiere next month. I can't wait for the world to see this iconic performance!

We still have tickets for our Black History Month Fashion Show with Saks Fifth Avenue on February 26! You can read more about the event and purchase tickets here. The Ellington Experience performance is on March 1, and we're excited to show the community the excellence of Ellington with performances from all eight of our art departments. The event is FREE (RSVP is required). You're encouraged to invite your friends, coworkers, neighbors, council members, and family!

SENIOR CLASS PARENT MEETING (Virtual)

Monday, March 6 @ 6:30 p.m. (Please standby for zoom credentials to log on.)

(In-Person)

GUMSHOE TUTORING (Math and Science) will be on pause next Saturday, Feb. 25. Students may, however, log on via Zoom, 10 a.m.-12 noon.

That's it for now. Thank you for your attention, stay safe, and have a great week!

V/r,

Sandi M. Logan
